WALKING FOR YOUR GOOD HEALTH

8/11/2009

Exercising on a regular basis helps boost our energy and our self-esteem. It also brings long-term benefits such as weight loss and disease prevention. To receive these benefits all you need to do is plan a regular schedule of walking. A brisk one mile walk done in 15 minutes has the same benefits as jogging.

Why not introduce walking as part of your regular activity? Let’s explore its many benefits.

1. You can prevent or delay heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and arthritis by adding walking to your regular routine.

2. Walking is an activity you can do regardless of your age. It’s a great way to keep fit and flexible.

3. You don’t need to worry about gym fees or special equipment in order to walk. The only requirement is a comfortable pair of good walking shoes.

4. No special techniques need to be learned. All of us know how to walk since our toddler stage of life.

5. You can combine it with other activities such as walking your pet (regular exercise is good for them also). You can also walk the mall before shopping or walk to work if it is conveniently located.

6. Because walking is low-impact, it’s safe to do even if you have arthritis.

7. Walking can be the springboard to other forms of exercise. As you walk, your self-confidence increases and you are more open to trying other types of exercise.

8. Why not walk with a friend or neighbor? Your social needs will also be met!

With all these benefits, no wonder walking is the #1 physical activity in the United States. Call a friend and plan to walk together today.
